Museum of tradition and the wild horse of the Giara
The Civic Museum of the Giara Horse opened in 2006, an ethnographic museum with a section dedicated to the Giara horse.

The museum is set up in a charming house of the early 900, with a large guard and stable, inside we find the tools for the various jobs of the fields, carpentry, sheep farming, farriery; a large kitchen welcomes “is forreddus”, “su strexiu’e terra” and “de fenu”. The bedrooms give a glimpse of life in past eras where time was marked by day and night.
The section dedicated to the Giara horse shows images of these extraordinary animals that live a few kilometres from the village of Genoni on the Giara di Gesturi and tells their story.
Since December 2014, the Museum has been enriched by an impressive number of interviews with the local population, which in turn, thanks to the hand of the illustrator Pia Valentinis, illustrate the life of the 900 through images. The ethnographic part is described by Prof. Giulio Angioni and the section dedicated to the Giara horse is strengthened with new panels and information.

We decide to visit this museum on the day of Ferragosto. When we found it closed, we called the mobile number we had found on the internet and spoke to Michele, who was particularly helpful and opened the museum for us, acting as our guide. He explained to us with competence, enthusiasm and kindness the various pieces on display, the history of Genoni and the Giara horse. The hour spent inside flew by thanks also to his very engaging explanatory style. Absolutely recommended visit.
I found the Museum very interesting not only in its external structure but also in its internal environments. The courtyard and the exhibition of agricultural tools are very suggestive.
Personally, among the books on display, I discovered and bought for my grandchildren an edition, dedicated precisely to children, of "The Hedgehog Tree" by Antonio Gramsci.
Very interesting! You go back in time and discover so many things and ways of living now lost. In addition, the beautiful illustrations by Pia Valentinis representing the stories of the inhabitants really give added value to the museum. Recommended!
